Home sweet NEW home

Mike and I did a pretty good job of packing our things last week in anticipation of our big moving day. We spent a few late nights wrapping and taping, and even resorted to raiding the LCBO for boxes when our local No Frills ran out. Sadly the weather did not want to cooperate with us on Saturday. Luckily Mike's dad, stepmom and Joemanda were gracious enough to help us shuttle things from the apartment to the truck to the house in the rainy cold. We were so grateful to have some helpers, especially since Mike just got over a cold earlier last week, and I had just caught it... and still have it.

Now that we are in our new house, it's a great feeling! We're discovering all sorts of tiny little things that need to be fixed or dealt with, but nothing urgent and nothing major. It's just nice to be here and know that it's all ours.

I hope that the unpacking is going to be pretty quick since we are digging out things as we need them. The toughest part is figuring out where to put everything. There are so many options when the new space is ~2.5 times bigger than where we were. I am most excited about getting ready for people to come visit us. I will have to wait for a bit longer to entertain guests however... this weekend we are going to Sarnia for Steve's retirement party and to see Staylefish at the Lazy Duck. On our way through we will stop in London to gather the rest of our wedding gifts to bring home. It won't be until the weekend after that that Mike and I will be able to spend our first weekend in our new home.

Mike's dad and stepmom stayed over on Saturday night after the move, so on Sunday we took them out to Kitchenstuffplus and Ikea for fun. Deb really enjoyed Kitchenstuffplus. Ikea was less exciting after that - It was really busy and I am not keen on a lot of the stuff they have available right now. My favourite buys were a coir front door mat for $15, and a Kitchenaid roasting pan that was on sale for $50 (we registered for one at the Bay and they were charging $130!), both from Kitchenstuffplus. At Ikea we bought a new plant, two garbage bins and a pot lid rack.
What kind of dork gets excited about a roasting pan?
It's going to be an expensive first few weeks as we replace things we had to toss out and get new things because we have more rooms to deal with (so glad to have 2 bathrooms finally though). Tonight's big task is to figure out where the grocery store(s) can be found since we need milk ASAP.

Next on the "to do" list is to find me a new job....
